Minister for Local Government

Level 21

Nauru House

80 Collins Street

MELBOURNE    VIC    3000

Dear Minister

We are writing as representatives of residents in the City of Melbourne.  We understand that the State Government is investigating the issue of local government boundaries. Three areas - parts of West Melbourne, Port Melbourne and the Docklands areas - serve capital city functions and as such are appropriately located within the boundaries of the City of Melbourne.  In other words, it is our view that the West Melbourne and Port Melbourne areas should remain in the Municipality of Melbourne, and that the Docklands area should be returned to the Municipality of Melbourne.

In the context of the new Municipal Strategic Statement, presently being drafted, we seek to be informed about the process and time lines for decisions on this matter, because of its implications for the strategic development of the municipality. In order to minimise the possible disruption that major boundary changes would entail, we urge you to expedite the process and decision to give certainty to all parties.

We would be happy to consult with you on this matter. We would be grateful if correspondence in relation to this letter could be sent to each of the Residents Association groups listed below.

Yours sincerely

Susan M Chambers
