Tunnel Vision
Tunnel Vision is the story of a local community that rose up in defiance against the controversial East West Link Tollway, and how social media and other savvy campaign strategies galvanised support and stopped the project.
The East West link campaign dominated mainstream media for 18 months making it the key issue in the 2014 state election. Ultimately it led to the defeat of a first term Victorian government – unheard of in over 60 years..
Underpinning the story is the community’s concern for Melbourne’s livability and future, and how community consultation and conversation was ignored by government at great cost.
The victory was the culmination of the determined efforts of citizen groups turned committed activists whose passionate advocacy of an alternate transport future was widely embraced.
