CRA Forum

State Election Candidates Forum

Four State election candidates accepted the invitation to attend the Forum on Monday 12 November.
Peter Hanlon (Independent), Jennifer Kanis (Labor), Ellen Sandell (Greens), Leo Close (Reason Party).  Leo was an apology on the night. They each made a brief statement and were then available for questions.

The election outcome – Ellen Sandell was re-elected after a close battle with Jennifer Kanis.

Working groups

Traffic, Transport, Parking and Noise Abatement

There have been 2 occasions in 2018 when Victoria Police and the Environment Protection Authority have flagged down noisy vehicles in Lygon Street and subjected them to noise emission tests.

A sign will be erected in of Pelham Street just east of Lygon Street, warning vehicles choosing to turn left of the pedestrian lights in Lygon Street.

Heritage
The Corkman – demolished illegally on the 15 October 2016
The Overlay gazetted 18 October 2018 does not REQUIRE the re-construction of the former heritage place.

 599-605 Swanston Street, Carlton – the former Beaurepaire Tyre Building
This re-developed site at the NW corner of Swanston and Queensberry Streets provides one recent example of the INEFFECTIVENESS of these DDO61 Heritage provisions.

99 Cardigan Street
This place, although likely to be of more recent construction than the C Graded Heritage Places to the immediate north, should have been included in a Heritage Overlay; it wasn’t.

The Issue of Social Significance – Jimmy Watson’s 331-335 Lygon Street, Carlton
This Heritage Place is located in the HO1 Heritage Overlay and was graded “F” in 1987, then “B” in 2016 but is UNGRADED in the proposed 2017 Heritage Places Inventory.

An initiative by CoM to provide assistance for individuals toresearch the history of their properties.

Allows the public to discover the history and memories of Yarra which includes Carlton North.
